Japanese garden
The scenery is one of our hotel’s assets.
Our hotel’s Japanese garden has been kept unchanged since our establishment in 1929, and features 3 Unzen Jigoku areas.
Guests can enjoy the sight of our wonderful Kyushu Azalea, over 90 years old, blooming in the spring,
the fresh green leaves of summer which turn red in autumn, and the snow-covered scenery of winter.
Our onsen building is built with wood, creating a wonderful feeling of natural light coming through the ceiling.
Our sulfur hot springs include high amounts of metasilicic acid that offers beauty benefits. Our onsen water is drawn directly from the source of the Dai Kyokan Jigoku hot spring.
We also have a sauna and a cool-water bath with a lovely high ceiling.
Hours | 3:00 pm - 12:00 am, 5:00 am - 9:00 am The men’s and women’s baths are switched every morning and evening. (Baths are cleaned every afternoon.) |
---|---|
Precautions for Use | These are sulfur hot springs, so precious metals may experience discoloration. Please be sure to remove such before bathing. Towels may also turn yellow, but this does not affect sanitation. Faucets can also turn black, so black fixtures are used. |
Post-Bathing Salon
In our post-bathing salon on 1F, we have also provided a range of books selected by the owner of “Book House Cafe”, a picture book specialist in Jinbocho, Tokyo, with an abundance of genres centered around “picture books we want adult guest to read” touching on construction, travel and hobbies related to Unzen and the Shimabara Peninsula.
Our Signboard and Glass Screen
Our signboard is from our establishment in 1929.
Our glass screen was a piece of art first drawn by Shimizu Kon (depicting the Oranda Manzai from the Nagasaki Kunchi), the famous manga artist from Nagasaki, which was then taken to a glass manufacturer in Tokyo by Miyazaki Ryokan’s first founder, Kamichiyo, and turned into a glass screen.
